Description PELLAN VIHAN is Breton for ‘Little Hill’ and is, as the name suggests, on a little hill, surrounded by woods and fields, a few hundred yards from Lac de Bel Air. Very quiet and peaceful the fields are, at times, full of a profusion of wild flowers. We call our field ‘butterfly field’ because of the variety of butterflies that are there all the summer. Bird life abounds and is particularly noticeable and vocal in May and June. If you go down to our lake in our wood at dusk and keep very quiet you have a very good chance of glimpsing the wild deer. There are also wild boar, but although we have seen signs of them and on one occasion heard one as it left rather rapidly, we have not yet seen them.
Artists will love the dramatic skies in all weather. On clear nights the stars are magical as there is no light pollution.
If you just want to laze around there are, apart from your own terrace, plenty of places where you can enjoy peace and quiet.
For more action you could swim in our lake or use some of our collection of bikes. On Lac de Bel Air there are Pedalos,Sailing boats and a fenced off swimming area on the other side of the lake together with tennis courts and other activities. Lac de Bel Air has fishing for Carp, Pike and other fish. Permits for fishing lakes and local rivers, together with advice on fishing local rivers, are available from the Bar by the River Elle - Au Pied de St Barbre - near Le Faouet.Horse riding is available nearby.
Priziac (2 miles) has restaurants, bars and a small store, whilst Le Faouet (5 miles) has many restaurants, a supermarket and other shops and businesses. The 15th Century covered market has a market on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Most towns and some villages have a market day with meat, fish and vegetables amongst other stalls.
Other towns such as Pontivy, Quimperle and Lorient are all worth a visit and are within an hour’s drive, as are many coastal beaches and fishing ports.
